WRITING 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ECUADOR

In December 31st of each year, the people in Ecuador celebrate The Old Year to make way for The New Year by creating "Años Viejos" that they are fake or dummy persons made of paper, sawdust, wood, cardboard and others.

Sometimes they are filled with firecrackers. The "Año Viejo" is usually placed outside the home in order to people can see them. So we can see many different kinds of "Años Viejos" in each block

The "Año Viejo" represents something that happened during the last year, so obviously represents the old year and they caracterize terrorists, local as well as national and international politicians and renowned personalities.

In this day also many men dress as women in black or better called widows. And they move crying and demanding money or candies around their neighborhoods and street.

Finally at midnight each family lights the "Año Viejo" on fire and all families hug each other wishing for a good New Year and the old year is forgotten and the new year begins.
