WATER, NOW A LIMITED AND NONRENEWABLE RESOURCE

The water was known as a renewable resource and infinite and thought it would last a lifetime. But we were wrong. Because of the abuse and overexploitation, water has become a non-renewable and limited resource.

Water is a component of the environment that allows the development of life on the planet

Water makes up 70% of the planet, from this percentage the 97% is salt water that is not suitable to human life, 3% of freshwater but 2% is frozen water leaving just 1% to human consume and this percentage is drinking water and from this 1%, the most of water is wasted.

From this 1% of water is use for:

Supply for manufacturing, food processing, industrial refrigeration, waste disposal.
For agriculture, including livestock and irrigation
To generate electricity.
Water is also use for recreation in pools, fountains, ponds, landscape irrigation, vehicle cleaning and others.

Causes of water shortage

Increasing urbanization

Deforestation from areas for which previously leaked large amounts of water
Water misdistribution
Failure to protect the aquifers

To have water available we must
* Maintain a rational use of water, meeting the requirements for quality, quantity and distribution.
* Protect aquifers, wetlands and other water reservoirs.
* Control and reduce pollution sources.
* Don’t leave the tap running
* Don’t use water as a game

A SHORT STORY

I was woken by the shout of "tickets please", and when I reached for my bag. I realized it was gone.

I decided to go to Atacames at weekend, so I prepared everything that I needed to carry. On tuesday I bought my tickets at the interprovincial bus terminal. So on Friday night I went to the bus terminal and I took the bus that would take me to Atacames, but before that, I bought something to eat during the trip.

After an hour trip I fell asleep. I woke up when I heard "Tickets please", So I had my ticket in my bag so I began to search my bag but it was gone.

I asked everyone on the bus about my bag and nobody knows anything. Then I said to the driver what had happened and his told me that he is driving now and he will help me with my problem later. So, as I had my cell phone in my pocket I called to the police I told them what happened and gave them the number and location of the bus and later the police stopped the bus and questioned the driver and the controller.

Then the police told me that they had hidden my bag in the luggage rack because I had my laptop in my bag so they wanted to steal it. The same thing happened to the other passengers not only me.

After of this incident the police arrested the two men and the company was closed down and they sent another bus to take us to Atacames

Hi My Dear Brother,

How are you? I hope you're well. Thanks for your last email. I'm writing to tell you about my new flat.

I've just moved into my new flat and it's brillant. It's such a great feeling having a place of my own, although I'm absolutely exhausted after moving all my things and boxes.

My flat is near to a park and I can running every day in this park, my neighbours Michelle and Mike are very nice, and their children are quite noisy, However, school term starts next week and Michelle says they will be quieter then.

Anyway, I can't complain - I'm quite noisy myself, as you know.

By the way, bad news about me and Caroline. We've split up. It was really hard but I think it was the right thing to do. I will tell you all about it next time we meet.

HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ECUADOR

In December 31st of each year, the people in Ecuador celebrate The Old Year to make way for The New Year by creating "Años Viejos" that they are fake or dummy persons made of paper, sawdust, wood, cardboard and others.

Sometimes they are filled with firecrackers. The "Año Viejo" is usually placed outside the home in order to people can see them. So we can see many different kinds of "Años Viejos" in each block

The "Año Viejo" represents something that happened during the last year, so obviously represents the old year and they caracterize terrorists, local as well as national and international politicians and renowned personalities.

In this day also many men dress as women in black or better called widows. And they move crying and demanding money or candies around their neighborhoods and street.

Finally at midnight each family lights the "Año Viejo" on fire and all families hug each other wishing for a good New Year and the old year is forgotten and the new year begins.
